How Will Mariota Injury Affect Titans Week 5

How Will Mariota Injury Affect Titans Week 5Going into Week 5, the 2-2 Tennessee Titans are currently faced with a potentially troubling Marcus Mariota injury, and they aren’t clear on his status to start this Sunday against the Dolphins in Miami. According to reports, Mariota has a tweaked hamstring, and it likely won’t be known whether or not he suits up until this weekend.

If the Mariota injury persists through to gameday, backup quarterback Matt Cassel is expected to start in his place. The Titans have also just signed backup Brandon Weeden for an extra cushion should Cassel have to miss any action once he takes over at the helm. However, if Cassel is anything like he used to be in his starting days, he could provide the Titans with a slight week-to-week upgrade over Mariota. Yes, Mariota’s been better over the last few years, but he’s having a rough start to the 2017-2018 NFL season, throwing for only 792 yards and 3 touchdowns through the first four games. In fact, he’s near the bottom of the league in almost every offensive category. Regardless of who starts, though, you can expect the Tennessee Titans to lean on their running game even more heavily than usual for this one.

Because of the Mariota injury, the big online sportsbooks have taken down all their lines and props for the Titans vs. Dolphins game. It’s not clear when any odds might be put back up on their boards, but for now, the Mariota injury (or potential injury) has completely upended the strategy for what could’ve been one of Week 5’s easiest betting opportunities. Of course, this is the Dolphins we’re talking about, so it probably still will be.
